Thanks to the Federal Ministry of Education, the staff shortage could soon be alleviated.
The hotel and catering industry may also experience relief from staff shortages in the near future. The Ministry of Education has launched a new measure to combat the shortage of skilled labour.
For the first time, people without a formal vocational qualification will be entitled to have their professional qualifications recognised and certified. This is provided for in a draft law by Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger, which was approved by the cabinet on Wednesday.
“This will turn a missed qualification into a second chance,” explained the FDP politician. The Bundestag and Bundesrat will now decide on the project.
Who is the procedure aimed at?
The new procedure for determining professional skills is aimed at people who have not completed vocational training but have worked in the respective profession for at least one and a half times the prescribed training period.
This also applies to vocational skills acquired in sheltered workshops. The so-called assessment procedure is to be carried out by the same bodies that normally carry out the examinations at the end of a training programme.
